The EX trims offer all the required amenities such as a large infotainment touch screen display with android auto, apple car play, navigation, synthetic leather upholstery, alloy wheels, drive modes, rearview camera, and lane keeping/following assist.
In order to the price of EX trim, these features are well versed and in fact work well. So this will be our pick for the most value-for-the-money trim.

Exterior and Styling

We could say the design language of the Kia Sportage is more similar to Hyundai’s new products. The recently launched Tuscon and Creta are manufactured into that design language. Hyundai calls it Sensuous Sportiness and Kia calls it Opposites United.
From the previous generation, the new fifth generation travels a way long, the newly redesigned upfront has blacked-out tiger-nose grille with boomerang shape LED DRLs, and headlights placed inside it. The rear portion of the front bumper has sharp cuts and edges, while an ample air dam makes the Sportage possible to breathe.
The side profile of the Kia Sportage has 17-inched chrome/blacked out alloy wheels fitted into the large wheel arches, body cladding is done on the entire car for better look and dust/rock protection. There is minimal use of chrome on the window line and the lower part of the doors, whereas the entire is in body colour. The roof rails are not standard in all the trims but additionally purchasable, that is disappointing though but what can we do?
Compared to the front, the rear has a soft slopping line that connects to a high-mounted spoiler through a shark fin antenna. The tail lights are LED and connected with a thin strip, it is a LED but a plastic part. The rear bumper is upraised and has some sort of silver finish, which resembles tiger nose grille styling.
Interior and Comfort

Unless the previous generation, the infotainment touch screen display, multi-media/ac controls, and gear knob is changed with a new unit. The main focus or we could say the attraction of the cabin, is the dial for gear selection. The same we got to see in the facelift of Kia Seltos, it is a dial and the gears can be selected by rotating it clockwise and anti-clockwise.
Moreover, the dashboard has a premium theme with soft leather inserts, the ac vents are well designed and the center part is a bit tilted towards the driver seats, for better controls and safety. The center console is wide and has spacing for the cup holder and the armrest storage is deep and cooled. There is a lot of chrome is used inside the Kia Sportage, whether it’s on the steering wheel, dashboard, center console, or on door pads.
The seats are built to hold the person in the right position and to provide the utmost comfort on long highway drives. The underthings and side bolster support are ample and the ventilation function makes it easy for hot summery drives. The depth and holding of the seats are commendable and they never feel the driver fatigue, even after hours of highway drive.
The seating is limited to 5 persons and literally, five persons can sit here easily, thanks to the wider cabin and cushy seats. the center arm for the rear seat is wide enough and has cup holders to carry any kind of beverage.
Thanks to the large glass area, the cabin never feels claustrophobic and if some doubt remained, then the panoramic sunroof gives a big smile to the face. The sunroof has a large opening and two people can easily come out of it.
Note: Please do not come out of the sunroof while the car is moving. It can be dangerous and could be fined.
Infotainment and Connectivity

The Kia Sportage has a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display with navigation and Kia Connect. The cluster is also power packed by Andriod auto, apple car play, and navigation. The sound output of the Sportage comes with a set of premium Harman Kardon sound system 400 watt and 8 Speakers. The infotainment unit is also packed with SiriusXM Satellite Radio and Bluetooth wireless connectivity with hands-free connectivity.
Infotainment Screen features – rearview monitor, android auto, apple car play, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition, and clock.
From the Kia smartphone app, such things can be used- ignition on/off, ac on/off controls, door lock/unlock, and sunroof close/open. These features do add value to the customer, especially the ac control, which helps cool the car temperature before you enter the car.
Features

Starting from the front facia, the headlights and DRLs are LED, and the windshield has sensors such as auto wipers, automatic headlamps with headlight assist, alloy wheels on the sides, full body cladding, window chrome line, roof rails, LED tail lights and rear parking sensors with rearview camera.
While the interior has automatic climate control, cruise control, steering mounted controls, push start/stop button, keyless go, powered driver side seat, memory function in the driver seat, heated and ventilated front row seats, rear ac vents, and rear center armrest.

Engine, Transmission, and Power

The Kia Sportage is powered by a single 2.5L, 4-Cylinder engine mated to an 8-Speed automatic transmission option. The engine can produce a maximum horsepower output of 187 bhp @ 6100 rpm and 241 Nm @ 4000 rpm. The motor is packed with three different drive modes – Eco, Normal, and Sport, while an All-Wheel-Drive powertrain is limited to X-Line trim.
The power from the engine is adequate and the gear shifts are smooth with bare turbo lag, power delivery is consistent till 8000 rpm and later struggles to catch up. The initial response from the motor is good, after hitting the turbo range it becomes a rocket.
Even with a full load of 5 occupants, the engine never feels lazy and lacks power, however, some amount of engine noise can be noticed on fast and high revs. But won’t affect the driving pleasure, and even adds a bit of sportiness to the character.
The snow mode is limited to the AWD trims, which is the X-Line, third from the base. The AWD can’t be used as an offroader, but soft offroading can be possible with this while having a recovery vehicle.
The Kia Sportage Top speed is 209 km/h, whereas the 0-60 and 0-100 km/h readings are 8.3 and 9.2 seconds respectively.
Safety and Driver Assistance Features
Kia Sportage comes packed with smart safety driver assistance features, the list starts with:

- Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist-Rear
- Safe Exit Assist
- Surround View Mirror
These safety and driver assistance features make the compact crossover SUV an intelligent car, that can sense danger and can act according to that. However, these features work passively and not actively for safety reasons. But works well.
Mileage, Range, and Fuel Tank Capacity
The Kia Sportage is a quite heavy SUV with a gross weight of 2120-2199 kgs, and mileage can become an issue. The Sportage delivers an overall mileage of 9.78-11.9 km/l mileage in all drive conditions.

Kia Sportage Mileage in mpg:
Driving Conditions | mpg |
---|---|
City | 23 |
Highway | 28 |

The fuel tank capacity of the Sportage SUV is 56 liters/14.8 gallons and the range band is 640-672 kilometers. It completely depends on the road condition and the driving behavior. If someone drives it with a light foot that it can even deliver 14.15 kmpl of mileage.
Warranty
