The overall outer of the Highlander is of a mid-size compact SUV, the SUV is 4950mm long, 1930mm wide and the wheelbase is 2849mm. The design language is sharp and has high raise bonnet lines, the front grille is finished in black while the outer is garnished with chrome. The lower part of the bumper has a silver finished diffuser and just above the fog lamps are placed.

The headlights are chiseled and have fully LED headlights with DRLs and turn indicators signals. Its equipped with features such as auto-leveling and Projector beams. The sides are well equipped with window line chrome garnish, blacked-out B and C pillars, and 20-Inch sleek alloy wheels with a sophisticated and clean look.

Inside the Toyota Highlander can accommodate up to 7 occupants at the same time, thanks to the third row of seating. However, it’s not much comfort but can be used for shorts sneak trips. Mainly the third-row seats are preferable for the children only. Except for the space, the row has everything that includes – AC vents, power sockets, and storage spaces.

The center console is neatly placed and on top is a 12.3-inch Touchscreen Display with Apple car play, Android Auto, Navigation, and Camera Displays. The infotainments system powers a JBL sound system that has a powerful sound output indeed. Other center console features include – Qi Wireless Charging Dock Station, Modes Selector Buttons, Touch AC Controls, AC Blower, etc.

To tackle the outer weather conditions, the front row seats are given ventilation as well as a heated function, which can be activated by pressing a button. The seats have a Two-Tone XSE interior with its available red and black leather-trimmed seats with red accent stitching on the seats and near the instrument panel too.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

There is a total of two types of engine options available – a 2.5L, motor with hybrid options and a powerful 3.5L, V6 gasoline motor. The hybrid motor has a combined punch of 243bhp. While the 3.5L, V6 generates 295 bhp @ 6600rpm of power and 356 Nm @ 4700rpm of peak torque from the motor. Both the motor are impaired to an automatic gearbox but the hybrid has an Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) and the only gasoline power motor is paired with the Direct Shift 8-Speed AT 8-Speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission (ECT).

The smaller displacement motor in combination with the hybrid made it a more efficient motor and generates nimble mileage figures in comparison to the gasoline 3.5L V6. This makes the Highlander one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its segment.

India has a dozen of SUVs in this segment such as the MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian, Kia Carnival (MPV), Volkswagen Tiguan, and Skoda Kodiaq. The competition will not be easy for the Highlander but it would be a great addition to the segment fleet in the Indian market. In Toyota Highlander, XLE is the mid variant and offers great value for the money, It has all the basic needy techs and features but the Highlander Limited gives you the luxury in hands. The interior leather upholstery, panoramic moonroof, JBL sound system, and so on. So overall, the Limited costs more but also give more.

Soft offroader SUVs are now quite popular among young buyers and the Toyota Highlander fits in the perfect space. The vast variety of engines caters to more buyers and the hybrid one is also one of the most fuel-efficient too. On the other side, the powerful 3.5L, V6 provides more power to the wheel with a Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD powertrain, available in both engines.

The interior does have a lot of new techs and a luxury feel, whether it’s the upmarket leather seats with red stitching or the big 12.3-inch touchscreen. It really features loaded.
